TODAY IN BIOLOGY CLASS WE LEARNED THAT WHEN YOU MOW THE GRASS THE BLADES RELEASE A CHEMICAL THAT MAKES THAT GLORIOUS SMELL BUT THE REASON WHY THEY RELEASE THE CHEMICAL IS TO WARN OTHER GRASS BLADES OF DANGER SO WHEN WE SMELL THE FRESHLY CUT GRASS SMELL IT’S NOT JUST A GOOD SMELL IT’S THE SMELL OF THE BLOOD AND SCREAMS FOR HELP OF THOUSANDS OF GRASS BLADES

LISTEN I’VE BEEN MOANING AND GROANING ABOUT THIS FIC FOR AGES AND NO ONE HAS WRITTEN IT YET SO I’M JUST GONNA TALK ABOUT IT HERE AND HOPE THAT SOMEONE IS INSPIRED AND WRITES IT FOR ME.

BUT.

i want fic where louis, at the tender age of 17, gets his girlfriend pregnant. and through a string of very serious conversations with his mum and long talks with his gf, he reaches the conclusion that even though he’s young, he really wants this kid. thats is if his gf wants to carry the baby. and the thing is, she does, but she’s also nowhere ready to be a mum. so they come to the decision that she will have the baby, and louis will take custody and she’ll sign over parental rights.

so then nine months later, there’s this baby in louis’s arms and louis is scared shitless but he’s determined to make this work. to keep his kid happy all her life and make sure she stays healthy and never feels like she’s missing anything in her life. because even at 18, louis knows a lot about himself. he knows that uni was never really an option for him — not with his grades and not with his lack of motivation for anything academically related. he knows that he’s going to be good at this. what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up in determination /not/ to be like his own biological father.

so he lives with his mum for the better part of his daughter’s first year. moves a crib into his bedroom, learns to tidy up, learns the nitty gritty of taking care of a child, or raising one. and after her first birthday party, he realizes that his mum and dad have got a lot on their plates already, what with four other kids to take care of. so he starts looking for flats in and around manchester and london and even doncaster. but he really doesn’t want to stay in donny where everyone seems to know his business and their neighbours all look at him like they’re disappointed in him even though they don’t know a thing about him.

he eventually finds one near the uni in manchester that’s relatively cheap and in his price range. it even has two bedrooms which is just icing at this point. he starts working two or three jobs, almost all of them very accommodating for a teenager with a baby to take care of.

and he’s pretty happy with his life. it’s hard work and he barely has time to take care of himself between changing nappies and wiping down tables at the restaurant he works at.

before he knows it, he’s 22 and his daughter is 5 and some months he has to forgo the internet connection or his mobile plan so that he can save up enough to buy her the christmas or birthday present she’s been eyeing, but it’s no hard sacrifice to see that smile on her face.

then one day he’s working the till at the coffee shop near the uni and this kid with the warmest brown eyes and unfairly beautiful face walks in and orders tea with too many sugars and too much milk and takes a seat at the breakfast bar right next to where louis’s daughter is sitting with her colouring books. louis finds out his name is liam and that he enjoys colouring pictures of disney princesses with crayons way too much for and grown man.

and basically a whole bunch of stuff happens in between and louis’s neighbour and also best friend zayn who he met on his first day in the city is apparently dating liam’s roommate jade’s best friend perrie. and suddenly liam is everywhere in louis’s life. and louis’s daughter really likes liam. and liam likes louis and louis likes liam. there’s a lot of liking going around.

but liam is 20 and most 20 year olds louis knows aren’t ready to commit to a relationship nevermind commit to a relationship that comes with a non-removable child attachment.

so they dance around the relationship for a while. but soon liam becomes a part of louis and his daughter’s daily routines, his clothes show up in louis’s closet, and his textbooks are neatly stacked on louis’s coffee table. liam does his coursework at dining table while louis teaches his daughter how to do addition, liam dries the dishes while louis washes, liam helps his daughter do little chores around the house.

liam’s friends become louis’s friends. harry makes for a great babysitter when louis’s in a pinch and louis constantly marvels at the fact that he’s so eager to spend his friday nights with a baby instead of out with his cool uni friends. niall starts playing wednesday nights at the coffee shop where louis works and writes little lullabies for his daughter when she’s sick and can’t go to sleep. and louis starts to get comfortable with this makeshift little family they’ve built —

uncle zayn who’s been there since pretty much the beginning, helping louis build his ikea furniture and always keeping louis’s fridge stocked on weeks when he knew louis was choosing between the heating and the groceries; uncle harry who doesn’t mind wearing tiaras and letting louis’s daughter paint his nails all sorts of colours with her magic markers; uncle niall who is surprisingly helpful with house chores and making dinner on nights louis works late shifts and buy his daughter a little ukelele and teaches her how to play it with her tiny little fingers.

and uncle liam who she never ever calls uncle liam just leem. leem who makes sure she brushes her teeth, and supervises her baths, and makes her watch toy story with him until she insists its her favourite movie too. liam who louis desperately wants to keep forever and ever and never let go just like in his daughter’s fairytale books.

and one day, between folding liam’s clothes along with his own and cooking dinner for three instead of two, louis suddenly realizes that liam is a permanent fixture in their lives. he does get to keep him forever and ever. so as they’re cleaning dishes louis shifts over and pecks liam lightly on the lips. and liam gives him a small smile and bumps hips with him as he dries a plate.

they build a home together, liam graduates and starts his career and once they’re settled, he helps louis apply to universities as a part time student and get his degree. he sends his — /their/ daughter off to school and then drives to school himself. it’s a lot of work, and a lot of stress, but eventually louis is graduating and his whole family, his found one and his genetic one are all there in team louis shirts, liam smiling the brightest with their daughter on his shoulders so that she can spot her dad out there on the stage.
